Prayer Targets: Sword of the Spirit; Defense Authorization; Christian Persecution; Prayer Musts

Though I… have the gift of prophecy… understand all mysteries and knowledge… have all faith, so that I could remove mountains… bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and…give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing… Love never fails… 1 Cor 13 1-13

Dear Praying Friends,

Mrs. Joy Lamb served as prayer coordinator in a ministry headquartered in Northeast Florida. Tasked with praying for the specific needs of thousands of correspondents, she became overwhelmed. Yet she heard the Lord say, “Pray My Word, child. It brings healing in all areas. Trust me and pray My Word.” Joy began to categorize requests according to need and developed lists of Scriptures for each need. They “seemed to jump off of the pages of the Bible.” Joy’s prayer team multiplied and her Scripture Prayer lists grew into a book — The Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. An elegant, but very humble lady, Joy has never promoted her book. Yet the book is now in its 17th printing, translated into several languages, and it ships daily by caseloads to people and churches of every denomination, and to prisons, prayer groups and counseling centers throughout the world. (Retail Store, for Quantity: Lamb’s Books, 3368 Lakeshore Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210). The preface to “praying for our nation,” speaks to the attitude in which we must pray, if we want our prayers answered:

Thank you for praying for our nation. It seems that violent division, rebellion, immorality and sin are more prevalent today than any other period in the history of our nation. ‘Repentance must come or we will all perish.’ We must seek the face of God, turn from our wicked ways-repent-forgive – and pray… claiming (2 Chronicles 7:14). This will bring healing to our nation. Pray the following Scriptures for repentance and healing of our nation.

Remember God cannot change a person or situation until we are willing to forgive and repent – not judge. Pray for the hearts of all of us to give up to God, and to forgive! Pray the following Scriptures for repentance and healing of our nation (in order – 2 Chr 7:14, 1 Kg 2:3, Acts 16:31, Jn 20:31, Col 3:8-9, 1 Th 3:12-13, 1 Kg 1:29, Gen 12:2, Ps 34:14, Ps 34:11, Mark 1:15, Ps 98:2, Jer 16:21, 2 Cor 7:1, Col 1:9-10, Pr 3:1, Ps 50:15, Ps 57:2-3, 1 Th 4:3, Ps 51:2, Pr 4:24,Is 49:8-9, Jer 7:23, Jas 4:7-8, Ex 32:14, Jer 26:13, 2 Cor 13:7-8, I Cor 2:5, Pr 8:13, Ps 81:9, Ps 33:8-10, Ps 33:11-12, 1 Jn 1:9, Jn 17:17, Ps 34:13, Pr 2:20, 2 Chr 15:12, Ps 82:4, Ps 146:9-10, Acts 28:27, Dt 19:19, 2 Kg 22:19-20, Ps 71:24, Jer 33:8-9, Joel 2:13, Pr 18:10).

The Lord tells us that if a nation does evil in His sight by not obeying His voice, then He will think better of the good with which He had promised to bless it (Jeremiah 18:10).

O Lord deliver us! Have mercy on us. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Defense Authorization Act — President Obama’s not-thought-through pledge to take military action if Syria crossed the “red line” by using chemical weapons has presented the U.S. with a dilemma. Support Al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and a disparate group of rebels — groups also sworn to overthrow the U.S. — with a massive bombing strike and other military assistance, or go back on his pledge and let Assad’s regime off the hook. President Obama has appealed to Congress to give him authority to act. Leading conservative and Christians are divided.

Meanwhile, the Defense Authorization Act which funds the military has yet to be passed. An Amendment to restore religious liberty by Louisiana Congressman John Fleming (R), must be part of the final bill to stop the raging secularism that has infected the Pentagon (See Rep. John Fleming, Hear Tony Perkins, Lt. General Jerry Boykin (USA, Ret.) and Congressman Frank Wolf (R-Va.) discuss Syria on TonyPerkins.com, see also FRC Senior Fellow Lt. Col. Bob Maginnis’ (USA, Ret.) Lecture: Deadly Consequences).

  • May God and those who fear Him arise to defend the religious liberty of the men and women who defend our lives on the battlefield and may Rep. Fleming’s amendment prevail. May the weakening of our armies by homosexual abuse and the decision to put women in bloody combat be reversed by courageous leaders in Congress and the Pentagon’s weakening our Armies be reversed (Ps 68:1; 1 Cor 16:13; Gal 5:1; Php 4:1; 1 Th 3:8; 2 Th 2:15; 2 Tim 4:2; Rev 12:11).

Pro-Homosexual Christian Persecution – The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled businesses have no religious grounds for denying service to support same-sex “marriages.” They found guilty of discrimination a photographer, who refused to photograph a lesbian union ceremony on religious grounds and upheld a state commission’s fine against the photographer of $7,000 to cover the lesbian couple’s legal fees. A recent Rasmussen Poll showed that 85% of Americans believe the photographer should have had the liberty to refuse service.

A small bakery business was hit by a similar discrimination complaint in Oregon. The Christian couple, who own the bakery, refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian same-sex “marriage” ceremony. Since then, the family has been so harassed and subjected to serious threats against their family (their vendors were similarly harassed), they have decided to close their shop and conduct their business from home.

Meanwhile, a Regnerus study has shown that the many polls that show support for same sex “marriage” growing are skewed. The real figures tell a different story. Nevertheless officials at every level of government continue to impose sexual immorality upon Americans. The 9th Circuit Court in San Francisco has upheld the new law that makes it illegal for parents to place children who claim to be homosexual in conversion therapy. Tomorrow, the City Council of San Antonio, Texas intends to pass a measure that would require all office seekers and service providers to express their support of liberal pro-homosexual ideology. • Lord, You knew that if Christians did not take a stand and lead in righteousness over the past several decades, as you always expected us to do, that those hostile to Christianity and biblical truth would rush to fill the void. And they have. Help us now to raise up Your standard in each of these increasingly more bizarre abuses of the U.S. Constitution by councils and courts. May believers cry out to you in each of these instances and others like them, and by your power and grace, stem the tide. You are our Hope and Helper! (Josh 1:7; Ps 50:14-23; Is 59:19; Dan 11:32-33; Eph 6:10-20)

Prayer Initiatives that we should all support! – I’ve written about The Awakening America Alliance and its annual CRY OUT AMERICA observances on September 11th and Intercessors for America’s NationalDayofRepentance.org to be followed with 21 day of prayer and fasting. Let me now urge you to visit David’s Tent — the 24-7 Prayer and Worship Tent that will be pitched for 40 day on the Ellipse — the large grassy area adjacent to the back yard of the White House, beginning September 24th. YWAM Director Jason Hershey, who led the operation last year, was invited by the National Park Service to return. View Jason’s video, explaining the vision.

  • May each of these great prayer initiatives flourish for the glory of God! May they reap much fruit — bringing souls into the Kingdom and Awakening to our Land! (2 Chr 7:14; Ps 33:12; Mal 3:1-6; Mt 4:17; 17:21; 18:18-19; Lk 18:1-8)

Finally, if there is any way you can come to be part of the Values Voter Summit, October 10-13 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, I urge you to do so. Please make it a point to spend some time in the Prayer Room, where the spiritual power is generated for this amazing conference of conservative Christian leaders. Please be praying for it! And if you cannot join us in person, watch the event at our Values Voter Summit website. Thanks for praying!
